Our favourite wellbeing podcasts to listen to on your commute

Ok we get it. Not all of you Virtual Clubbers can swap a subway train for a push bike to get to and from work without having to set off at 3am. However, although many of us would like to easily sub out a sweaty and overcrowded bus for a leisurely bike ride to the office, for most people commuting by public transport is a mainstay in their daily lives.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you miss out on any health and wellbeing opportunities that your hi-vis colleagues speeding down the cycle lane are embracing. According to the latest research, the average commute time in London is 40 minutes27.2% of New Yorkers travel for more than 60 minutes each way on their commute. Meanwhile, it’s a sapping 63 minutes for professionals getting to work in Sao Paulo. So, while it’s clear that time may be a major factor for many people commuting to the office, it’s really about how you might be able to optimise that time in a more meaningful way.

Podcasts are a fantastic way to entertain and digest information on long journeys. Read on to find out more about our favourite wellbeing podcasts you can get into during your commute this month. Keep listening for long enough and it might just become a new habit you can’t do without…

1. The Liz Earle Wellbeing Show

Liz Earle speaks to a range of leading experts from the world of wellbeing to bring listeners wellness wisdom and peace of body and mind. She discusses a range of issues from sleep and longevity to “brain fog”. With over 200 episodes lasting around a manageable 30-50 minutes, there’s plenty for you to learn.

2. Open Mind with Frankie Bridge

Frankie Bridge started her podcast in 2019 and since then has had refreshingly open and honest conversations with a number of TV presenters, comedians, actors, musicians and others in public life on mental health issues, often drawing on strategies and coping mechanisms that her guests have used to support them through difficult periods in their lives.


There are now a wide range of different wellbeing podcasts available to listen.


3. Radio Headspace

If you’ve got a full schedule of podcasts to get through already, do try and eke out five minutes to listen to the daily podcast from Radio Headspace. Their short but highly thought-provoking episodes help listeners take a brief moment to pause and reflect to consider what brings people together and how we can live a life that reflects ourselves and our limitless potential.

4. Courage and Spice: the podcast for humans with self-doubt

Sas Petherick draws on her self-confessed possession of a “masters degree in self-doubt”, to address a range of thinking patterns that hold us back personally and professionally. External validation, overthinking, unhealthy beliefs and much more are all under the microscope for Sas and her guests.

5. Feel Better, Live More with Dr Rangan Chatterjee

Dr Chatterjee – star of BBC 1’s ‘Doctor In the House’ presents a detailed look at health life-hacks, debunking myths and empowering others to transform the way they feel. With weekly episodes lasting a meaty 2.5 hours in some cases there’s a great deal of insight and detail to inspire and motivate you during a long commute.
