New York Race Launch

Date set for Bloomberg Square Mile Relay New York 2020

18 February 2020 at 4:53PM

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will return to New York on Thursday, May 7 2020, following a sold-out race in 2019. It will be the first race of the year in the U.S.A with entries already open for San Francisco coming up on Thursday, June 11.

Citi group were triumphant last year’s race beating Macquarie by a mere 10 seconds to win the Fastest Overall Team for the second year running in one of the most tightly contested races of the 2019 Global Series.

Reigning Fastest Female Team champions Bloomberg’s FastHER were the eventual winners of the global Fastest Female Team title across all of last year’s races. They will be keen to defend their title in New York, the home of the relay’s headline sponsor Bloomberg.

“The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is one of our favorite team building events. Everyone had a great time and we really enjoyed cheering each other on during the race.” said a runner from Nikko Asset Management at last year’s race.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay continues to leave a lasting legacy in each race city, through the charity arm of the event called The Extra Mile. We will once again be partnering with 9/11 Memorial & Museum for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay New York in 2020. This year’s race in New York will again see 25% of team entry fees donated to another important local cause, focused on using the power of sport to make a lasting difference to the lives of people in the city.

James Hassett, Managing Director of Square Mile Sport, the owners of the event, said; “We are delighted to announce that we’ll be returning to New York in May. New York is an important stop-over in our global series. As well as being the home of our headline sponsor, Bloomberg, several other companies that compete in our global series such as Apollo, BNY Mellon, Willkie Farr & Gallagher and many others also have their global headquarters there too.

“The incredible energy and infectious excitement that the relay brings goes hand-in-hand with companies wanting to improve the well-being of their employees. This sits alongside the continued positive impact the event supports in the city through our partners, 9/11 Memorial & Museum. It’s truly a night not to be missed.”
