The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will return to Mumbai for the second time in 2020 following a raucous debut earlier this year.
A staggering 61 teams including Federal Bank, LinkedIn and Nomura, raced in Mumbai in March helping to make it one of the biggest entries for a debut race in recent years. The format of the race itself will again see teams of 10 runners representing their company running 1 mile (1.6km) each against rival companies in a relay format with the winner being crowned the fastest in their city.
US$20,000 of entry fees from the race went towards The Extra Mile programme who in 2019 partnered with Magic Bus, one of the largest poverty alleviation programs in India who have been using it to implement a employability education programme in the city. Magic Bus are returning as The Extra Mile partner for the 2020 race, with the three causes set to be unveiled later this year.
There was a vibrate energy at the post race after-party at this year’s race in Mumbai.
Tata Consultancy Services will be looking to mount a strong defence of their 2019 title after fighting off challenges from IDFC First Bank and Reserve Bank of India. As will Nomura who fielded three teams in 2019, including the Fastest Women’s Team, which has been a new category across the global series this year.
James Hassett, Managing Director of Square Mile Sport said: “We’re all really excited about returning to Mumbai again next year.
“The runners created a fantastic energy and infectious enthusiasm at the Mumbai race in March and next year’s race promises to be bigger and better.
“Mumbai is home to some of India’s biggest institutions and businesses. The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is an unparalleled opportunity for the city’s institutions to get their employees physically active, build team spirit and ultimately have a some fun.”
