Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Virtual Club set for debut virtual race
09 July 2020 a 10:00AM
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Virtual Club is set to host its first ever virtual race following its launch earlier this week.
Users on the platform can now enter to take part in a 1 mile (1.6km) virtual race which will start at 6pm (GMT) on Friday, 10 July with all registered runners needing to complete their 1 mile distance before Midnight (GMT) on Sunday, 12 July.
For the first time in Bloomberg Square Mile Relay history, runners will be able to compete directly with other colleagues across the world in the same race.
“We are really excited to be celebrating the launch of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Virtual Club with such an iconic race for our global corporate community”, said Global Race Director Tim Manton.
“We have developed a fun and exciting programme of events and challenges for the remainder of the year which we hope will bring our global community closer together. Whether you are a serious runner or enjoy a causal walk or the occasional hike, there is something for everybody to get involved in.”
The Global 1 mile Race will be the first time Bloomberg Square Mile Relay runners can directly compete against other offices around the world as part of the same race.
The Global 1 mile Race this weekend is the first race in a new events calendar which will give people the chance to participate in events more often as Tim Manton explains.
“For the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay we only have one race per year in each city. It’s a really fun night of team bonding, competition and camaraderie, and we’ll never be able to replicate it virtually. However, the Virtual Club does give us the opportunity to host virtual races and challenges both on a more regular basis and on a global scale. We hope this will continue to encourage our community to engage in more activities that will benefit their physical wellbeing and mental health during these challenging times.
“The beauty of the Virtual Club races and challenges is that there is no set route and the times to take part are over a period of days rather than hours. People can pick their own routes, at a time of day that suits them, at a pace they are comfortable with. It’s really inclusive”, said Manton.
The Extra Mile programme has also been integrated into the Virtual Club, as all users’ global efforts are combined to unlock charitable donations for their cities. To find out more about how this works click here.
Does Manton have any final messages for those considering joining the Virtual Club and taking part in the Global 1 mile Race? “You’ve got nothing to lose! If you are already registered with us from a previous Bloomberg Square Mile Relay event, simply login using your password and register for the Virtual Club, which is full complimentary. Once you’re in the Virtual Club find the Global 1 mile Race under the “Events” tab and click “Register”. It’s really easy to use, and it’s free!”
