Who is racing?

There will be 100 teams lining up on the start line for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Dubai 2020 and Emirates Steel will be the team to beat, having run  a superb time of 1:01:27 last year..  However, no one has ever successfully defended the Fastest Overall Team title in Dubai. Could we see a new champion in 2020? JLL have been the Mixed Team champions for the last  two years and we are looking forward to seeing if anyone is up to the challenge of dethroning them.

Strong team representation comes from ACWA Power, Barclays, Dubai Aerospace Enterprises, Mastercard and Standard Chartered Bank who will all have three teams on the start line.

JLL are looking to defend their Fastest Mixed Team title for the third year in a row.

What are the causes they are racing for?

The Extra Mile helps participants of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay contribute to their city in a bigger, better way, with 25% of all team entries going to fund projects in the local community throughout the year. On the night, runners get the chance to run for a cause they are passionate about and we are delighted to once again with Emirates Red Crescent as The Extra Mile Partner for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Dubai 2020.

The Emirates Red Crescent uses the funding to bring about long-term change to the lives of the less fortunate in Dubai as well as many other regions, through its charity work it has conducted 185 development projects in 13 countries around the world. Emirates Red Crescent works to promote the spirit of solidarity and compassion within communities and thanks to the support of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay amongst many others, it can continue its charitable programs and projects in the humanitarian field for those in need. Both locally and internationally, they coordinate awareness programs, first aid, and the protection and control of epidemics, as well as providing humanitarian assistance for vulnerable, needy people across a variety of causes and when disasters occur.

The two causes runners will choose to race for are:

  • Education: The Extra Mile grant will go toward local projects that renovate, maintain and build schools for low income nationals throughout the UAE.
  • Disaster Relief: The Extra Mile grant will go toward countries affected by floods, earthquakes, drought and desertification, as well as supporting humanitarian issues for the most vulnerable groups.
