Bloomberg Square Mile Relay returns to São Paulo’s Parque do Povo
18 June 2019 a 2:39PM
São Paulo will be the seventh race of the 2019 global series, after it was announced that the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will return to the city on Thursday, 22 August 2019.
The race will see teams of 10 runners representing their company, running 1 mile (1.6km) each against rival companies in a relay format, with the winner being crowned the fastest firm in the city.
The race also helps support local community projects, with 25% of all race entry fees going towards The Extra Mile program, in partnership with Instituto Esporte e Educação, who help kids learn the values of being positive citizens in the community through sports, games and physical activity. Every runner gets to vote for which cause is supported, which is surmised by the race’s motto: “Your lap. Your cause. Your impact.” ABN AMRO are the reigning champions in São Paulo and they finished a narrow 11 seconds ahead of Société Générale to win last year’s race.
ABN AMRO won the 2018 race in São Paulo.
James Hassett, Managing Director of Square Mile Sport said: “It’s great see participation in the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay São Paulo continuing to grow, and am sure it will be another record year for the third edition of the race in the South America city.
“The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a fantastic opportunity for the business community in São Paulo to get physically active, build team spirit and showcase their company across the city, all for a very worthy local cause.”
