The first Bloomberg Square Mile Relay of 2019 took place in Dubai two weeks ago, and with over 100 teams in the race, the event was a sell-out for the first time in the city!
With more companies returning to the race, and with 34 new businesses on the start line for the first time, it’s clear that the financial district in Dubai has fully embraced the race and can’t wait to take part each year.
Ahead of the Dubai race, we caught up with the team captain from Winston & Strawn LLP, Shibeer Ahmed, before they took to the start line to find out why their company was taking part in the race once again.
Why have Winston & Strawn LLP returned to the race?
We’re a sucker for punishment! We really enjoyed the race last year and the team really wanted to come back. We’re all psyched up again for this year’s event. We’re hoping to win but we’re more likely to be in the bottom 20 percent. (Winston Strawn LLP finished the race in a time of 1:31:15, in 82nd place).
What do you and your team enjoy about taking part in the event?
Just the team camaraderie really. We like to egg each other on and try to get the best out of each other throughout the race.
What’s your favourite part of the event?
The end! It’s when everyone finishes and then you can see how much pain everyone has gone through! You then get a chance to relax with your colleagues, and the other people that we work with here in the DIFC.
How do you find working as a team for the race?
We really enjoy this as a team. It’s a very diverse team, you have some very fit people and then some extremely unfit people like me! Then there is a whole range in the middle so it’s a really good opportunity for us to get together regardless of our fitness level.
Rally your colleagues in Mumbai to take part in the next Bloomberg Square Mile Relay taking place in the Jio Garden on Friday, 15 March. For more information click here.
