Runners will race each other for position as they navigate tight turns and sharp bends on a unique one-mile (1.6km) route, synonymous with the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay. The Tokyo skyline will provide a dramatic backdrop to a route that will not only challenge returning runners on the start line, but also offers a unique, fun and exciting race for first-time participants.
The Extra Mile teamed up with Coaches Across Continents and local charity United Sports Foundation in Tokyo to provide programming that will lead to more equality and positive opportunities for women and girls through sports.
The program kicked off with a volunteer day ahead of the Relay race night, where we hosted 30 young people from a local girl’s football team and from disadvantaged communities, as well as a number of volunteers. They took part in fun and interactive games, educational sessions and football tournaments.
Throughout the year, The Extra Mile will support programs that will provide at-risk young women and girls with access to education around social issues and problem-solving through sports. The program will be run in schools and during football tournaments across Tokyo, involving multiple interactive and exciting events.
The relay community will now have a chance to volunteer in interactive and exciting activities that addresses this winning challenge and kicks off the yearlong support of The Extra Mile in Tokyo.
Please join us and go the extra mile yourself by participating in one of the volunteer days, it will be an experience you’ll never forget!
