Following the postponement of this year’s Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Sydney to 2021 we are inviting all entered captains and runners to help us go The Extra Mile by voting for their cause online.
We will still be supporting our charity partner Coaches Across Continents and US$20,000 (over AU$34,000) will be donated to The Extra Mile program, which will be used to support projects based on one of the three causes below.
The cause with the most votes will receive the donation, and Coaches Across Continents will use this funding to address the winning cause across a year-long project.
Entered captains and runners have been contacted by email with more details about how they can vote.
We will announce the winning cause on Friday 27 March.
The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Sydney causes:
- Healthy Living: Choose this cause and The Extra Mile grant will go toward sports programming in Sydney communities that will promote health and wellness including hygiene and sanitation. The Sydney programming will include pre-session discussions around the importance of practicing healthy hygienic habits to avoid contagious diseases including washing, safe water, food hygiene and more.
- Physical Activity: Choose this cause and The Extra Mile grant will go toward sports programming in Sydney communities that will promote physical activity for youth without access to exercise opportunities. The school programming will offer education around the importance of regular physical activity at a time when many children will not have spent much time exercising after the coronavirus pandemic.
- Mental Health: Choose this cause and The Extra Mile grant will go toward sports programming in Sydney communities that will create a safe space for discussions around mental health in youth. For young people the emotional impact of social distancing and self-isolation is increasingly vital. The programs will be underpinned by positive youth development processes to support holistic, positive youth well-being.
