All you need to know about the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Mumbai 2020

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will take over Jio Garden in Mumbai for the second time on Friday, 6 March as 67 teams will take their places on the start line. To get you in the mood for what promises to be another fantastic and exciting evening, we’ve put together this useful guide for everything you need to know about the hugely anticipated event.

When is the race?

The race will start at Jio Garden at 6:30pm local time on Friday, 6 March, with the last runners expected to finish around 8:00pm local time. The awards and presentation and after-party follow soon after, until the Race Village closes at 10.00pm.

Who is racing?

There will be 67 teams lining up on the start line for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Mumbai 2020, as even more teams get to experience the event after last year’s debut, and the race promises to be even more exciting and action packed!

A host of companies will be looking to improve on last year’s performance, to take the title of Fastest Firm in the city in 2020. With Nomura IT Services claiming the Fastest Female Team title and Bloomberg winning the Fastest Mixed Team title in last year’s inaugural race, we look forward to seeing the teams who are up to the challenge of putting in a title winning performance in this year’s race.

Strong team representation comes from SBI Funds Management and Edelweiss Financial Services who will both have three teams on the start line.

Official Charity Partner Magic Bus will also be taking part in the race for a second year running.

What are the causes they are racing for?

The Extra Mile helps participants of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay contribute to their city in a bigger, better way, with 25% of all team entries going to fund projects in the local community throughout the year. On the night, runners get the chance to run for a cause they are passionate about and we are delighted to once again partner with Magic Bus as The Extra Mile Partner for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Mumbai 2020.

Magic Bus is one of the largest poverty alleviation programs in India, working with more than 375,000 children and young people in 22 States and 77 Districts of the country. In the last six years alone, Magic Bus has reached out to 923,000 children helping them move out of poverty and our activity-based sessions are carried out across 798 schools and 1934 communities. In Mumbai, they work with some of the poorest children and young people living in poverty, taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods using methodology that integrates sport, play and games. The long-term and sustainable outcome is that they equip these young people with the life skills and knowledge they need to grow up and move out of poverty.

The three causes runners will choose to race for are:

• Livelihood – The Extra Mile grant will go toward delivering an award-winning sports program that works in some of the toughest communities in Mumbai to give young people the tools and resources to get employed.
• Girls Empowerment – The Extra Mile grant will go toward a program that uses sports to engage and empower girls, and then train them so they can be economically independent and be a meaningful role model for the next generation.
• Education – The Extra Mile Grant will go toward sports programing in Mumbai that will engage and retain the city’s most disadvantaged children in school.
